Can men wear slips? Do men wear nylon slips? Is it okay for men to buy slips? Helpful advice.
Do men wear nylon slips? More do than you might think!

Can Men Wear Slips? Is it OK for men to wear slips?

Do men wear slips?  Lots of men buy and wear nylon slips these days, but good help and advice is essential for making the right choices. Here is the essential guide for men buying vintage slips online.

Is it wrong for men to want to wear a vintage nylon slip?

Of course not!  Absolutely not!  Although gender norms and expectations about what men and women are supposed to wear do still exist, thankfully those old barriers are gradually breaking down over time.  At Nylon Nostalgia we only have one kind of customer and it is of no importance to us whatsoever if that customer is a woman or a man.  It really doesn't matter at all.

A silky nylon slip is just a garment after all, just fabric.  Anyone should be able to wear what they want whenever they want.

That said, men and women are obviously built differently and come in different shapes and sizes.  This creates one or two extra things male buyers need to think about when purchasing vintage slips, as well as questions to ask.  In this article, let's look at the whole process of men buying vintage slips and give useful and helpful advice to make the whole experience a lot easier and more pleasurable.  Here are some questions and answers for men buying slips...

I totally understand your problem.  The reasons that bigger slips suitable for men are hard to find are threefold unfortunately:

  • Back in the day, slips were only ever designed and manufactured with women in mind.  Because women are generally smaller in size than men, it stands to reason that less larger slips were made and even fewer survived to this day.

  • In the 1940's and well into the 1950's 'plus size' slips were hard to find, even for women.  They just didn't make enough stock in those larger sizes. The scarcity of clothing for larger women was a huge problem in those days, including slips, and the cause of heated debate between consumer groups and manufacturers, who were very slow to respond to demand.  If larger slips were hard to obtain back then, it is even harder now.

  • Larger size slips suitable for men to wear have been largely snapped up by collectors and wearers and often do not reappear on the vintage lingerie market.

Always go by the bust size in inches.  Never use sizes such as US 10, UK 14, etc., or indeed 'Medium' or 'Large' etc., as they are too general and unreliable.  Because a man's chest is usually his widest point, always measure around your chest and go by the bust size in inches.  All Nylon Nostalgia slips have their exact bust measurements in inches clearly shown in their descriptions and once you know what your bust (chest!) dimensions are, sizing the right slips for you is easy from then on.

Undoubtedly yes.  It is not unusual at all - I am used to it!  At Nylon Nostalgia I have a strict 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, so the only way I would know is if you tell me.  Building trust between customer and supplier is important and takes time, but quite often men will confide in me that they are actually buying for themselves and of course this helps a lot when selecting suitable slips.  Some male customers are completely open about their lingerie buying preferences, while others are much less so.  I like to think that Nylon Nostalgia is one place where my desire to be helpful and showing friendliness and understanding puts them at ease.  Not all men are buying slips to wear of course - many are collectors of these beautiful vintage lingerie items.

This is a hard question to answer.  My own personal viewpoint is that I am understanding and supportive of men who wear slips and I suspect there are many more women who feel the same way.  Life is too short to think otherwise, surely.  The world is changing fast and attitudes to many things are changing too.  I can wear jeans and trousers any time I like and nobody even cares or remarks on it - so why can't it be the other way around too?

Gender neutral fashion is a growing trend that is gaining ground fast.  The old term for it is 'unisex'.  Fashion designers and manufacturers have finally come to realise that men's clothing on offer is often boring, drab, and unnecessarily over-engineered.

It is worth spending a couple of minutes reading this superb article on gender fluid fashion.

Better still, here is a superb article in the Guardian about why many men are now buying womenswear - this will gladden the heart of all men who prefer to wear nicer things.

No.  Some I know are collectors of pretty nylon slips, but don't actually wear them.  Vintage slips are lovely things to collect for their own sake and will never lose their value.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a man wearing slips in bed - in fact it is a great idea and very practical too.  Vintage nylon slips make great nighties.  I have only two bits of advice to give - firstly, buy slips with wide straps.  Thin straps could snap as you move around in your sleep.  Secondly, buy a size up from your normal slip size if you are going to sleep in it - you will find that extra room will be far more comfortable.

Here is a previous article I wrote about wearing slips in bed.

My packaging is the most boring, least conspicuous and hardly noticeable packaging imaginable!  I deliberately make sure it doesn't stand out.  I don't use cheap, flimsy mailers that rip easily - I spend extra money on strong, thick, grey coloured mailers that are built to survive a journey.  I never describe the contents on the outside, nobody can tell what is in the package by just handling it, and my return address does not say 'Nylon Nostalgia' on it.  You can't get more discreet than that!

Because slips and knickers are small, lightweight and thin, most packages will go through a standard letterbox.  That means that even if you are not in at the time of delivery, you'll get it anyway without it being left with a neighbour (who may open it by mistake), or having to collect it from your local Post Office.

All my orders are shipped by Royal Mail without exception.  Why?  Because they are totally reliable. Courier companies have a bad reputation for delivering to the wrong address or not delivering at all, so I won't take any risks on your behalf.  Royal Mail will deliver safely to any address, even to PO Box numbers.

Overseas orders are also sent out via Royal Mail and delivered by the destination service.  They are tracked the whole way.

I do a fabulous range of knickers and panties too.  They are my own brand and design and are made by an expert machinist on my behalf.  They are gender neutral, so absolutely anyone can wear them.  They are styled on true 1950's vintage knickers to give that authentic retro look and feel.  We use only the finest sheer nylon and the softest glossiest satin to make them and the only lace we use is fine Nottingham lace.  Take a look at my own knicker range in my shop - men are welcome!

A survey carried out by a retailer of gender neutral lingerie actually revealed that 90% of their male customers are in heterosexual relationships.
